Websites built exclusively for parish councils

Every Parish Council Pigeon website is designed around the things a council must publish and the people who need to find them: agendas and minutes, policies, finance documents, meeting dates, news, events and who to contact. The pages are accessible to WCAG 2.2 AA, ready for the Transparency Code, and simple enough for a busy clerk to update without technical help.

What a parish council website has to do

A parish council website is not a brochure. It is where residents check when the next meeting is, read the minutes, see how the precept is spent and find out who their councillors are. It is also where auditors look for the documents the law says must be published. A good council website does both jobs quietly, every week of the year.

That is why we start with the legal framework rather than the look. Each site has a clear place for meetings, finance, policies, councillors and the compliance information a council is expected to publish, so nothing important ends up buried in a news post from three years ago.

Designed for residents, run by the clerk

Residents arrive on phones, tablets and old desktop computers, and some use screen readers or magnification. Every site is built and tested to WCAG 2.2 AA so it works for all of them, and the content editor keeps new pages and documents accessible as they are added.

Clerks are often part time and rarely have time to wrestle with software. Our editor is built for them: uploading the minutes or changing a meeting date takes a minute or two, and if you would rather not, our UK team will make the change for you.

Specialists, not generalists

We only build websites for parish and town councils. That focus means we already know about the Transparency Code, the AGAR, Assertion 10, the annual parish meeting and the rhythm of a council year, and we build those things in rather than bolting them on. ThenMedia, the company behind Parish Council Pigeon, is on Nominet’s authorised registrar list, so we can register and manage your council’s .gov.uk domain directly, and that is included in both of our packages at no extra cost.

Questions councils ask us

What should a parish council website include?

At a minimum: meeting dates, agendas and minutes, councillor details and contacts, finance documents including the AGAR, policies such as standing orders and the code of conduct, the items required by the Transparency Code, an accessibility statement and a privacy notice. Every Parish Council Pigeon website has a clear home for each of these.

How much does a parish council website cost?

Our Classic package is £30 a month plus VAT and Community is £45 a month plus VAT. There is no setup fee, no build fee and no minimum contract, and the monthly fee covers hosting, security, training and support.

Are your websites accessible?

Yes. Every site is designed and tested to WCAG 2.2 AA with automated tools and hands-on keyboard, screen reader and zoom checks, and each council receives an accessibility statement written for its own site.

Can you help us move to a .gov.uk domain?

Yes. ThenMedia is an authorised .gov.uk registrar, so we can register and manage your council’s .gov.uk domain directly and set up council email addresses at the same time. Registering and managing the domain is included in both packages at no extra cost.

Can we move from our current website provider?

Yes. We build the new site, move your pages and documents across, set up redirects from the old addresses and help with the domain, so residents can still find everything after the switch.
