A content management system for parish councils

A website your clerk can actually run

Most council websites are built by a developer and then quietly become someone else’s problem to update. Ours are different. Every Parish Council Pigeon website, on either package, comes with a content editor built for clerks and councillors rather than web professionals, so your council is never locked out of its own site.

What the editor does

Our bespoke CMS keeps everyday updates simple: add a news item, upload the latest minutes, change a meeting date or update a councillor profile, usually in under a minute. Every change is checked against our accessibility rules as it is made, so the site stays compliant however often it changes.

Update from anywhere

Make changes from any computer browser, at home or in the office. Community councils can also use the free app for iOS and Android when they are out and about. Whichever you choose, every council receives a free live Zoom training session, so your clerk and councillors are confident from day one.

Prefer to hand it over?

You are never obliged to make a change yourself. On either package, send it to our UK support team and we will make it for you, usually the same working day, at no extra cost. Most clerks do the quick things themselves and pass the rest to us.

Questions clerks ask about the CMS

Do we need technical skills to use the CMS?

No. The editor is built for clerks and councillors rather than web professionals. If you can write an email and attach a document, you can update the website, and every council gets a free live training session.

What can we update ourselves?

Everyday content such as news, agendas and minutes, meeting dates, documents and councillor profiles. Anything you would rather not do, our UK team will do for you, usually the same working day.

Will our website stay accessible as we add content?

Yes. The CMS keeps new pages in the accessible templates and checks content against our accessibility rules as it is added. Our training also shows your clerk how to publish accessible documents.

Is the CMS included in both packages?

Yes. Classic and Community both include the content management system and training. Community also extends it to an events calendar, newsletters and social sharing.

Can you move our existing content into the new CMS?

Yes. When you move to us we migrate your pages and documents and set up redirects from the old addresses, so nothing important is lost.

What you can update

The editor covers the everyday jobs a clerk does through the year:

  • News: add a news item
  • Agendas and minutes: upload the latest agendas and minutes
  • Meeting dates: change a meeting date
  • Councillor profiles: update a councillor’s details when membership changes
  • Documents: add or replace a document

If a change is not one you want to make yourself, our UK team will make it for you. Our guide to Assertion 10 explains what the AGAR asks about your website and email, and our support and training page shows how we help.
