Parish council website compliance
Meet your duties with confidence
Parish councils must publish a growing list of information online, from the Transparency Code and the annual governance and accountability return to accessibility statements and privacy notices. Our websites are structured around those duties, so the right documents have a natural home and residents can find them without hunting.
- Accessibility and your accessibility statement
- Transparency Code publishing
- Agendas and minutes published on time
- Policies and documents kept in order
- Security and data protection, handled for you
The legal requirements for a parish council website
Several sets of rules shape what a council website must do. None of them is complicated on its own, but together they add up to a lot for a part-time clerk to keep track of.
| Requirement | What it asks of your website |
|---|---|
| Accessibility regulations | Pages and documents that meet WCAG AA, and an accessibility statement in the government format |
| Transparency Code | Spending over £100, annual accounts, the annual governance statement, the internal audit report, assets, councillor responsibilities and meeting papers |
| Meetings | Agendas published three clear days ahead, then draft and approved minutes |
| The AGAR | The notice of public rights, the approved return and the conclusion of audit, each on time |
| Data protection | A privacy notice, and personal data handled lawfully and securely |
| Freedom of information | A publication scheme, with the information it promises kept online |
Assertion 10 and your website
Since the 2025/26 return, the Annual Governance Statement includes Assertion 10 on digital and data compliance. It asks the council to confirm that it uses council-owned email accounts, has an accessible website, has adopted sensible IT arrangements and meets its data protection duties. Much of the evidence lives on the website itself. Our guide to Assertion 10 explains what it covers and how to answer it with confidence.
How we help
We cannot write your minutes for you, but we can make publishing them quick and hard to get wrong, and our UK team will upload anything you would rather hand over. Every site has a clear place for each requirement, the editor keeps documents accessible, and our training walks your clerk through what the rules expect. If you want the full checklist, read what a parish council website must publish.
